AIC4NL Selects TU Delft Proposal for AI Learning Community

AIC4NL, a public-private program that invests in the Dutch AI ecosystem, selected nine proposals for Innovation Labs and Learning Communities in late October 2024. One of the selected projects is the AI Learning Initiative for Multi-modal Traffic and Transportation, abbreviated as AiMTT. The community, which consists of nearly twenty partners, is led by TU Delft.

The goal of the Learning Communities is to build a high-quality and diverse AI talent pool of professionals and students, capable of harnessing the opportunities and tackling the challenges of AI. Each community should serve as a knowledge accelerator for AI, combining practical cases with knowledge development. AIM-TT will specifically focus on the potential of AI to improve traffic safety, make public and demand-responsive transport more efficient, optimize container transport, manage crowd flows at major events, and minimize disruptions from large-scale roadworks.

Use Cases

Partners in the AIM-TT consortium include Rijkswaterstaat, Province of Noord-Holland, Amsterdam City , SAIL Amsterdam, NDW, RDW, and Arane. Over a three-year period, the consortium will explore seven use cases: network management, crowd management, construction logistics, autonomous vehicles, container transport, and demand-responsive transport. The Dutch trade magazine NM Magazine will play a key role in disseminating the results and lessons learned.

Funding Call

Earlier in February, AIC4NL (fornerly known as AiNed) launched a funding call for Innovation Labs and Learning Communities, making a total of € 49 million available. Over one hundred proposals were submitted, of which thirty-three were assessed and nine selected. The chosen projects span several sectors, including Health & Care, Mobility, Transport & Logistics, Technical Industry, and Energy & Sustainability.
